WASHINGTON, D.C.–The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now publishing final Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rules and the enforcement period is beginning.
Transportation and Logistics food transportation food safety rules are currently being finalized by Under congressional instructions, the requires the FDA to audit, enforce and improve food safety in transportation processes.
These rules focus on:
Foods not completely enclosed by a container;
Transportation by truck and rail
Risk reducing and prevention of adulteration;
Personnel training and certification;
Inspection and data collection; and
Maintenance and reporting that provides evidence of compliance.
Final rules are expected in late 2015. Perishable food carriers, shippers, receivers and maintenance operations must develop and implement risk reducing preventive food handling, load and un-load changes and to make distribution and transportation improvements.
