United Parcel Service (UPS) Canada Ltd. has unveiled its latest technological innovation – the UPS Electronic Return Label.
The service,available through UPS Connect* software, enables businesses to e-mail shipping labels directly to customers who need to return merchandise.
Retailers, manufacturers, and cataloguers who need to have products such as high-tech goods or warranty items returned will be able to use the UPS Electronic Return Label without inconveniencing the customer. The instant delivery of the shipping label facilitates easy returns with minimal steps.
For North America’s first full-line sporting goods company, UPS claims this solution will ensure customers have a controllable, hassle-free returns process. Spalding Canada currently uses the UPS Returns Plus* and Print and Mail Return Label solution to manage all the information about returns.
“We can access the movement of information instantaneously, across all departments,” says Spalding Canada Manager of Logistics and Transportation,Marc Spagnuolo. “Before UPS Returns, our return merchandise process was not associated with the Spalding brand. Returns, however, have to be handled with the same efficiency as orders. Both returns and orders are essential to building our brand image, enhancing customer satisfaction and lowering processing costs.”
The UPS Electronic Return Label the courier’s total returns options to seven.
With the Electronic Return Label, customers receive an e-mail: they click on a link to retrieve the label, print it on a regular sheet of paper and send the package back via UPS. The e-mail also gives the customer a link to the nearest UPS drop-off location, a tracking number to check the status of the package any time of day or night, and a receipt. The return package can be handed to any UPS driver, or dropped off at over 1,074 locations UPS drop-off boxes, UPS shipping centres, UPS retail stores, Mail Boxes Etc. and UPS authorized shipping outlets.
And, as usual, UPS designed the application to work with its entire portfolio of services so businesses enjoy the flexibility of having packages returned by UPS Express or other UPS services.
During the past year, UPS has expanded its portfolio even further to include a complete spectrum from a basic return label to its highly sophisticated ReturnsSM on the Web technology.
It was UPS that years ago developed the first industry standards for returns: Call Tags and the Authorized Return Service (ARS) label. The “Fur Call Tag,” which later became the Call Tag, was used for department stores to provide a way for customers to put furs in storage after winter.
