PLANTATION, Fla. — DHL is donating up to $500,000 of in-kind shipping services towards immediate relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in Southern Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the Florida panhandle.
The total outlay will include immediate air and ground logistics and transportation support for The American Red Cross, official government relief agencies, and other organizations active in relief efforts and long-term rebuilding activities in the affected areas.
DHL direct in-kind logistics and transportation assistance will provide rapid transport of urgently needed food, water, clothing, personal care supplies, communications equipment, and other essential items directly to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
DHL added it is still evaluating the extent of the impact to its local facilities, particularly in the New Orleans and Gulfport areas. In the meantime, DHL will be redeploying available employees from the facilities currently closed to new assignments, whether working on the coordination of deliveries of relief shipments into the ravaged communities, or relocating to other DHL facilities and operations.
DHL will also coordinate its infrastructure and fleet operations with partners with last mile capabilities, enabling more efficient management and flow of relief supplies into the hardest hit areas.
