CN donates thousands to support flood-damaged Manitoba

WINNIPEG, Man. — CN has donated $37,500 to the Red Cross in support of the agency’s relief efforts throughout the province of Manitoba. This sum represents a combination of funds donated by employees and a corporate match.

This spring, chronic rainstorms in southwestern Manitoba dramatically raised the levels of the Assiniboine and Souris Rivers.

The flooding that ensued affected more than 40 municipalities and forced thousands of Manitobans to leave their homes. This year’s disaster ranks as one of the most costly flood events in the province’s history.

“On behalf of the Canadian Red Cross and the thousands of people impacted by the Manitoba flood, I would like to thank the employees at CN for this generous donation,” said Sue Phillips, director general of the Red Cross in Western Canada. “This donation not only represents support for the many families rebuilding their lives following the flood, but is also a testament to the caring and humanity of everyone at CN who have mobilized to help others in their time of need.”

“The devastating impact of the Manitoba flood was a shock for us all. CN is glad to be able to help the Red Cross address some of the immense human suffering caused by this disaster,” said Claude Mongeau, president and CEO of CN.
