OTTAWA, Ont.–The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, today announced several amendments to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations to improve reporting requirements.
Effective today, individuals responsible for dangerous goods must report more information to the department, such as:
dangerous goods that have been lost, stolen, or interfered with;
road incidents involving dangerous goods; and
undeclared or misdeclared dangerous goods transported by passenger aircraft.
The amendments also make permanent a previously announced ban on lithium-ion battery cargo shipments on passenger aircraft.
“Knowledge is power, and with these new amendments, we’ll have more information on dangerous goods than we ever have in the past. We can’t just be advised of large events involving dangerous goods, we need to know about smaller incidents as well. The actions we are taking today make our system even safer and will continue to improve how dangerous goods are safely transported across Canada,” the Minister said.
