Jettainer to manage Unit Load Devices for Jet Airways

RAUNHEIM, Ger./Mumbai, Ind.–The German ULD company Jettainer and Jet Airways, India’s international airline, have signed a five-year contract for the outsourcing of ULD cargo services.

“The co-operation with Jet Airways is a great opportunity for both sides and a gateway to Asia for Jettainer. We are delighted and proud to have won Jet Airways, one of India’s leading airlines, as our customer. We are certain that other airlines will monitor the success of this project closely,” said Jettainer’s Managing Director Casten Hernig.

It is the first co-operation of Jettainer with an Asian airline, said a release.

After a roll-in phase, which started on February 2nd, all operations are reportedly running smoothly and efficiently with Jettainer operators assisting the airline in their day-to-day operations.

The outsourcing arrangement includes the handling of 1279 ULDs, many of which – 590 to be exact, are light weight containers of the AKE LW design. ULDs provided and managed by Jettainer will fly on Jet Airways routes between New Delhi, Mumbai, Brussels, London, Paris, Newark (USA), Toronto and Hong Kong as well as any new widebody flights Jet Airways launches.

“As part of Jet Airways’ continuous attempts to innovate, reduce cost and enhance efficiency, we are excited about this outsourcing arrangement. Jettainer’s expertise and professionalism will facilitate Jet Airways’ widebody operations,” said Gaurang Shetty, Senior Vice President Commercial, Jet Airways.

The airline operates Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 777-300 ER widebody jetliners on these services.

With a mobile track and trace application, Jettainer offers highly precise controlling tools to the client, it said. The airline is replacing a fair share of its old lower deck cargo containers as part of the deal. Due to the light weight of Jettainer’s assets both the carrier and environment will benefit from lower fuel consumption.
