TORONTO, Ont. -- The cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased by 0.03 % in September when compared with August results, according to the latest report from the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of accessorial charges assessed by carriers, increased by .05% when compared to August.

Average fuel surcharges assessed by carriers have seen an increase from 19.63% of base rates in August to 20.48% in September.

"Domestic LTL has shown a steady increase year-to-date while domestic truckload has seen the largest decline year-to-date. However, there has been a marginal increase in this segment over the past two months," said Doug Payne, president and COO of Nulogx, which facilitates the CGFI. "Year over year, total cost of freight is comparable to July 2011."
